Special Notice You Must "Opt-In" by August 15 to Continue Receiving Overdraft Coverage on Certain Transactions
Since November 15, 2005, Albany Federal Employees' Credit Union has offered, at no additional cost to you, a special program known as “Overdraft Advance”. In order for a member to qualify for this program, they must be at least 18 years of age, have a share draft account that has been open for at least 90 days and be in good standing with Albany Federal Employees' Credit Union on any additional accounts. Not all members qualify for this service and because this program is considered to be a non-contractual agreement, Albany Federal Employees' Credit Union is not required to extend this program to any member. The way “Overdraft Advance” works is in the event any transaction (share draft, ACH item, on-line bill pay payment, ATM, Debit Card purchase, etc…) causes your account to become overdrawn, Albany Federal Employees' Credit Union will charge a $35.00 non-sufficient funds fee per transaction and then, if the member is qualified, Albany Federal Employees' Credit Union will pay the transaction for the member at no additional cost. This keeps you, the member, from having the potential embarrassment of having a transaction returned which could in turn cost the member additional merchant fees. New federal legislation requires that we ask you to “Opt-In” or agree to receive overdraft coverage by August 15, 2010. Under this new law we will no longer be able to pay your overdrafts on ATM transactions and everyday debit card transactions unless you notify us that you would like to receive this benefit. In order to continue receiving the overdraft services that you are currently getting, you must “Opt-In” in one of the following ways.
The “Opt-In” form and overdraft services information will provide you with more details about Albany Federal Employees' Credit Union’s overdraft procedures. If you have any questions, feel free to call our Member Service Representative at (229) 439-1448 or (888) 822-1633. To download the “Opt-In” from please click here.
